Sun Moon Lake, located in Nantou County in Western Chinese Taiwan, is the largestnatural lake in Chinese Taiwan Province. It lies on the top of the mountain betweenYushan and Alishan. The lake has a circumference of 35 kilometers, an area of7.7 square kilometers and a water depth of 20-30 meters, more than 10 times thatof the West Lake. There are few natural lakes in Chinese Taiwan. The largest and mostfamous one is Sun Moon Lake. Its water area is 9 square kilometers, and itswater depth is more than 30 meters. There is an island in the Sun Moon Lake,which looks like a bead floating on the water from a distance. Therefore, thisisland is called "Pearl Island", and now it is also called Guanghua island andLalu island. Taking this island as the boundary, the northern part of the lakeis round like the sun, and the southern part of the lake is curved like thecrescent moon. This is the origin of the name of Sun Moon Lake.
There is also a beautiful legend about the name of Sun Moon Lake. Once upona time, there lived two dragons in this big pool. One day, the sun passedthrough the sky, and the Dragon leaped up and devoured the sun. At night, whenthe moon passed through the sky, the mother dragon leaped up and swallowed themoon. The two dragons swam about in the pool, spitting and swallowing the sunand moon, and hitting each other. They only want to have fun, but they didn'texpect that there would be no sun and moon in the world. A local young man andwoman, smart and brave Dajian brother and Shuihua sister, are determined to findthe sun and moon for the world.
They trekked through mountains and rivers, went through all kinds ofdifficulties and dangers, and finally came to the foot of Ali Mountain and foundthe golden axe and golden scissors that the dragons were afraid of. Then theywent back to the pool and had a fierce fight with the dragon. The two dragonsfinally died, but the sun and the moon still sank in the pool. Brother Dajiantakes off the eyes of the male dragon and swallows it; sister Shuihua takes offthe eyes of the female dragon and swallows it.
They became giants and stood in the pool like two mountains. Big brotherJian threw the sun hard, and sister Shuihua pulled up the palm trees beside thepool to hold the sun up and put the sun in the sky. Then sister Shuihua threwthe moon into the sky, and brother Dajian also put the moon into the sky withpalm trees. The sun and the moon hang high in the sky, shining on the earth,everything revives, people cheering. Big brother Jian and sister Shuihua havebecome two majestic mountains standing by the pool forever. Later, people calledthis big lake Sun Moon Lake and the two big mountains dajianshan andshuihuashan.

The altitude is about 760meters and the area is about 900 hectares. It is surrounded by mountains, lushtrees and picturesque scenery. There are many places of interest around.
Sun Moon Lake is very deep, the lake is green, there is a beautiful islandin the middle of the lake, called Guanghua island. The island divides the lakeinto two parts. The north side is like a round sun, which is called RI tan. Thesouth is like a curved moon, called moon pool.
Sun Moon Lake is surrounded by mountains full of green trees, the lake isquiet, blue, like a bright mirror.
At noon, the sun shines high, and the beauty of the Sun Moon Lake and thesurrounding buildings are clearly displayed in front of us. If there is adrizzle, the Sun Moon Lake seems to be covered with gauze, and the surroundingscenery is hazy, just like a fairyland in a fairy tale.
Zeng zuolin of Qing Dynasty once praised the beautiful landscape of SunMoon Lake with the poem "water in the mountain, water in the middle mountain,mountain in the sky, water in leisure".

A famous river divides Harbin into the north and the south part, along its bank formed two amazing riverside parks. That is the Mother River of Harbin—Songhua River.
Songhua River, ranks the fifth longest river in China, runs about 1,897 kilometers long and covers a drainage area of 545,600 square kilometers. The source of the river is a crater lake called Heavenly Lake with an elevation of 2,189 meters at the top of the Changbai Mountain, which borders North Korea in China’s Jilin Province. The water falls down from the Heavenly Lake and forms a waterfall, as if the water rushes down from haven. Hence the local Manchu inhabitant called it “Heavenly Lake” in meaning, “Songga-liwula” in pronunciation. Now we transliterate into Chinese Songhua River.
It is 4 meters in depth and 1 kilometer in width on average in Harbin sector. Songhua River has more than 900 branches in large and small size. The river is frozen over from November to April the nest year. the period of freezing weather is 135 days.
As the largest branch of the Heilong River, Songhua River winding through Harbin for 117 kilometers and served as an important artery for the development of the city. In the 17th century, under the reign of Emperor Kangxi, naval ships were stationed along these areas, and resisted the invading Russian enemy successfully. After that, in 1689, Sino-Russian Treaty of Nerchinsk was signed. That is the first border agreement between the Qing government and the imperial Russian government. On June 6th, 1898, a Russia warship taken on the engineers and surveyors to made a topographic map for building the China-East Railway. There landing point is where the Flood Control Monument located now. From then on, the river became busy and lots of material needed for build the railway were transported through this River and then, a modern city was erected at the south bank of Songhua River.
Three big bridges have been built over the river, and one of them connected the south bank of Harbin and Sun Island was built in 1983 and opened to traffic in 1986. This bridge approach or the leading bridge on the south bank of the Songhua River was designed to have two circles. So the whole bridge was like a scissors and the bridge approach is like the scissors’ handle.
The Songhua River in winter is no less bustling than a summer bathing beach. It’s frozen hard with ice nearly one meter thick, turning it into a huge playground for all kinds of ice sports. You can go skating and ice sailing, or ride in ice junks or horse-drawn sleighs. But if you want to do something really different, why not get into a swimming costume and join those crazy people, young and old, diving and swimming in a pool of icy water dug out of the frozen river?
