When I met him,I had a lot of anger inside of me. I've lived my whole life in Spanish Harlem, but in my neighborhood, there are shoot¬ups all the time. I know kids who have been shot or beaten up .I have friends who ended up in prison. I could have ended up that way, too, but Mr. Clark wouldn't let that happen.

Mr. Clark worked long hours, making sure I did my work. My grades rose. In fact, the scores of our whole class rose. One day,he took our class to see The Phantom of the Opera ,and it was the first time some kids had ever been out of Harlem. Before the show,he treated us to dinner at a restaurant and taught us not to talk with our mouths full. We did not want to let him down.

Mr. Clark was selected as Disney's 2000 Teacher of the Year. He said he would draw three names out of a hat;those students would to with him to Los Angeles to get the award. But when the time came to draw names,Mr. Clark said,“You're all going.”

On graduation day, there were a lot of tears. We didn't want his class to end. In 2001,he moved to Atlanta, but we always kept in touch. He started giving lectures about education, and wrote a bestselling book based on his classroom rules,The Essential 55.

In 2003,Mr. Clark took some of us on a trip to South Africa to deliver school supplies and visit the orphanages (孤儿院).It was the most amazing experience of my life. It's now my dream to one day start a group of women's clubs, helping people from all backgrounds. 1.Without Mr. Clark, the writer ________. It’s hard not to feel cheated and over-charged when you receive unexpected roaming (漫游) charges while traveling abroad—whether they come from making phone calls or checking e-mails.

Jeff Gardner received an $ 11,000 bill from Verizon after spending four days in Jamaica. Before the trip, Mr. Gardner, who runs a fly-fishing business in Grayling, Michigan, said he called Verizon to find out what it would cost to use his cellphone for calls and his wireless card to check e-mails while in Jamaica. He said he was told that calls would be about $ 2 a minute and that there would be no extra charges for data as he was on an unlimited plan. The latter part turned out to be wrong.

“I don’t mind paying a fair amount for fair service, but $11,000 for four days is ridiculous,” said Mr. Gardner, who used his phone carefully and economically on the trip. He also tried to check and send e-mails using his wireless card, but quickly gave up after the e-mails didn’t go through. Still, his Verizon bill said more than 500,000 kilobytes (千字节) of data was delivered while he was in Jamaica, an

amount Mr. Gardner said is 100 times what he normally uses in a month. As travelers increasingly use smart phones abroad in the same way they do at home—to check e-mails, update Facebook and Twitter and pull up online maps—many are facing costly roaming fees, which providers charge when customers use their phones outside their service area. In fact, roaming charges have gotten so out of hand that the Federal Communications Commission has proposed a plan that would require wireless companies to send their customers a voice or text message when they are approaching their plan’s limit, when they have reached that limit and when they are starting to result in roaming fees. 1. Why did Jeff Gardner call Verizon before his trip to Jamaica? A. To hand over his business. B. To check his cellphone bill C. To find out information about Jamaica.

D. To find out information about roaming charges.

2. What does the underlined sentence in Paragraph 2 mean?

A. Extra charges were made for Jeff Gardner’s data delivery. B. Jeff Gardner’s calls were charged over $2 per minute. C. Jeff Gardner’s plan turned out to be limited. D. Jeff Gardner had difficulty delivering data abroad. 3. During the trip, Jeff Gardner______. A. was careless with phone use B. delivered no more data than at home

C. received quite poor e-mail services

D. frequently used his wireless card to send e-mails

4. What should wireless companies do according to the Federal Communications Commission?

A. Make customers know when they’re outside their service area. B. Get customers informed when they’re near the limit of their plan. C. Stop serving customers when they’ve reached their plan’s limit. D. Limit some services to reduce the amount of roaming charges abroad. 参考答案1--4DACB

阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C、D)中,选出最佳选项。 In the Social Media Age, teenagers are sharing more information about themselves on social media sites than ever before.

According to a Common Sense Media research, more than eight in ten teenagers have visited a social networking site, and three out of four teenagers now have an account on a social networking site.

Although social media sites can improve teenagers’ communication abilities, experts say that social networking could be harmful to healthy teenage self-esteem(自尊). Health educator and motivational speaker Scott Fried began working with teenagers 22 years ago. He recently developed a new lecture, Broken-Heartedness and Intimacy in the Age of Social Media, to discuss with teenagers the differences between their personalities online and their true selves.

“The definition of growing up is bringing together many different parts of your personality.” Fried said. “As you grow, they turn into one whole personality. Now, you have a personality at school, at home,

and online. The goal of being a teenager is to bring together all those different parts that are shown online in a complete way.”

Fried uses the phrase “compare and despair” to describe the bad effect of social media on teenager self-esteem. “If you compare yourself to someone else, you’re usually going to end up despairing,” Fried said. “One of the problems with social media is that we throw our best selves out there, or what we like to think of as our best self.” Psychologist Nadine De Giordany says that teenagers who already have low self-esteem can easily get depressed and give others their low self-esteem. De Giordany says social media are causing more and more depression. He adds that parents should educate their children early on about social media.

“Teenagers can use many resources that affect the way they deal with peer pressure.” De Giordany said. “As children are growing up, monitor what it is that they have access to. There is an age that social media are appropriate for and there is an age that they aren’t appropriate for.”

33. The main idea of the passage is that _______. A. social media cause the depression of teenagers B. more and more teenagers use social media

34. Which of the following statements would Scott Fried agree with? A. Social networking is good for the development of teenage self-esteem.

B. Teenagers should hide their true personalities online.

C. Teenagers have to tolerate different kinds of personalities. D. People often set impractical standards for themselves on social networking sites.

35. According to Nadine De Giordany, parents should _______.

A. check their children for the signs of depression every now and then

B. talk to their children about the proper ways to use social media as early as possible

C. stop their children from using social networking sites frequently

D. teach their children to make good use of social media to deal with peer pressure 参考答案33-35 ADB 2016高考训练--阅读理解。

阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C、D)中,选出最佳选项。 The U.S. government is facing an increasing bother. Wild pigs, at their worst, can damage crops, spread diseases, attack humans and kill farm animals. And things are getting worse: a study shows that they are likely

to double in number over the next 3 years. Why is it so hard to control wild pigs?

Introduced to America in the 16th century, and related to the wild pigs found in Europe, wild pigs can be found in 75% of all states. No single law exists to control them and regulations differ between states: while in Missouri they can only be shot if met by chance, in Texas hunting is actively encouraged; a “pork chopper” law allows Texan hunters to shoot wild pigs from helicopters, and some people in Louisiana have even built their own pig—hunting drone(无人机). As well as being popular with hunters, wild pigs are cheaper for game raisers to breed(饲养)than deer. In Michigan and Pennsylvania suggested bans on the private breeding of pigs for hunting have caused quarrels between game raisers and wildlife officials.

Wild pigs' double nature—considered pests by farmers, but valued by hunters—makes it hard to pass laws to control them. Two other factors also contribute. Nearly 70% of land in America is privately owned. And it is difficult for lawmakers to force breeding and hunting laws on private landowners. Secondly, it is hard to define a wild pig. In some states, laws are being introduced to redefine the term “wild animal” to keep out wild pigs. This is good news for those raising pigs for hunting, but less are to those who consider them pests whose number should be limited. Meanwhile, discussions continue over how to deal with

this problem.

28. People are not permitted to hunt wild pigs freely in ________. A. Texas B. Michigan C. Missouri D. Louisiana 29. Why do the game raisers prefer raising wild pigs to deer? A. It's difficult to raise deer. B. Wild pigs are in large numbers. C. Deer are not popular with hunters. D. They can benefit more from wild pigs.

30. Which is NOT the reason for the difficulty in controlling wild pigs? A. The difficulty of passing effective laws. B. The high percentage of land owned privately. C. The farmers' unwillingness to shoot wild pigs. D. The popularity of raising wild pigs in many states. 31. What is the best title of the text? A. Why are wild pigs so hard to control? B. Are wild pigs pests or wild animals?

C. Wild pigs—an increasing danger in the US. D. How to deal with the problem of wild pigs? 参考答案28—31、CDCA
