In 2006 , Doyne took a trip in Nepal ,Asia. Having grown up comfortably in New Jersey , Doyne was shocked to see so many orphaned children living on the streets. She wanted to do something about it. Doyne used her savings of $5,000 to buy an acre of land . Then , she built the kids a home, the Kopila Valley Children‘s Home.

Now, the Do Something foundation is doing something for Doyne. The youth organization provides resources and support for teens that want to make a difference in the world. On Thursday night , the foundation named Doyne the $100,000 prize winner of the 2009 Do

Something Award.

The Koplia Valley Children‘s Home officially opened its doors in 2008. Doyne, now 22

years old , cares for 26 kids at the home . She has helped more than 700 other orphans find families. She also runs a program that provides scholarships for needy families to send their children to school. The children learn basic skills such as sewing and cooking. They also grow their own food in their garden and raise farm animals.

Doyne admits that she didn‘t have it all figured out when she fist arrived in Nepal. ―I just felt that there was something there for me ,‖she said. She settled on building a children‘s home after speaking with the community about what they needed. Doyne says that her parents were supportive of her .But it was a chanllenge to convince other adults that an 18-year-old girl could accomplish such a big project. Still, Doyne never gave up on fund-raising . In just over a year , she had enough money to build her dream home.

Almost a third of children regularly go without breakfast before school and are more likely than classmates to be inactive, unfit and obese, research shows.

While 68% of the pupils eat before leaving home, 32% do not . Of the latter , 25% only sometimes have a morning meal and 7% never have breakfast on school days , according to findings which have raised fresh concern about children‘s eating habits and general health.

The study of 4,326 children , aged 10—16 , in England was reported that 26.6% of boys and 38.6% of girls skipped (漏掉) breakfast some or all the time . Boys often blame lack of time , while many girls missed breakfast because they believe doing so would help them lose weight.

―We found that children who skip breakfast either occasionally or regularly are less fit, less active and more likely to be overweight or obese(肥胖) than those who always eat breakfast, ‖ said lead author Dr Gavin Sandercock.. a professor at the University of Essex.‖ Children with the healthiest weight were always those who regularly had breakfast before heading to school.‖

These findings are worrying because we found more obesity and lower levels of physical activity among skippers, which is of great concern because these children are more likely to develop chronic(慢性的) disease in adulthood like cancer, heart disease and diabetes,‖ added Sandercock.

While girls who skipped breakfast are 92% more likely to become obese than female classmates who regularly eat before school , the equivalent figure in boys was 62%. But the boys were much more likely than female ones to have a sedentary (永坐的) lifestyle and , critically, have poor heart and lung fitness, said Sandercock

Until now it has been thought that children who missed breakfast were more likely to be obese because they snacked during the day and ate late at night. But the study suggests that their inactive lifestyle may also play a key role.

D. The boy skippers are more likely to become aggressive.

43. Besides snacking ,another factor that accounts for children‘ weight problem is that ____ A. they are fond of sleeping B. they are active after class C. they sleep too late at night D. they don‘t take much exercise

Competition between international universities is heating up, as China grows as one of the largest exporters of students aiming to study abroad.。“Lots of universities are becoming more and more aggressive to attract Chinese students .Every day I receive contacts from universities in the US expressing the desire to come to China to recruit students,‖ said Frank Joseph, a commercial officer from embassy of the United States.

One key reason why more Chinese students are able to study abroad is the economy : With China‘s boom within the past decade, more families have the financial wherewithal(资金) to send their children to international universities . There will be a total of 200.000 family –funded Chinese students studying overseas in 2009, up 20% from last year, said Wu Zaofeng, deputy secretary general of China Education Association for International Exchang.

International institutions, Joseph said, are also facing an increasingly tough financial situation with a shortage of domestic students and a drop in government subsidies(补贴) .Students ,especially in the US are paying high tuition fees and living expenses. Chinese students with money to spend , according to experts, can fill up the gap. Students on everage spend 150,000 yuan to 200,000 yuan every year studying in US , according to statistics from the US Institute of International Education . During 2007—2008 , there was approximately 81,000 Chinese students studying in the US , up 19.8 percent from 2006.

Representitives from approximately 60 universities from the United States are slated (打算) to arrive in Beijing this weekend to attract more Chinese students at this year‘ s fair. Besides the US many other countries are also vying(竞争) to enroll Chinese students.

Post –study work visa put out by British government allows all international students completing a UK degree qualification to apply for a visa to stay on and look for work in the UK for up to 2 years. Being the third most popular destination for international students next to the US and UK ,France has set up two types of scholarship funds to Chinese students in recent years.

A. Because their families have enough money to send them to international universities. B Because they can‘t go to the best universities at home
