Nowadays, children of our generation rarely suffer from hunger and cold as our grandparents did when hey were in childhood. Our grandparents, however, will never understand the learning stress we under in every semester. Thus, it is hard to tell whose childhood is easier and more comfortable.
In the past, when it was before reform and opening up, a majority of Chinese people were bothered by hunger and cold all the time. It was normal to hear that children were starved to death and parents abandoned their children because they were unable to keep them alive. Things happened to my grandparents, too. Hearing from my grandmother, she always felt hungry since her meals were normally porridge and she could eat meat only once a week or even less frequently. In terms of wearing, clothes were usually worn by all the kids in the family in turns. Luckily, my grandmother was the eldest kid among her brothers and sisters, so she always got the chance to try the new clothes firstly, but the youngest kid could only wear the oldest clothes. Unlike my grandmother, my life is totally different. Today, I never worry about hunger but what to eat tonight; I never eat a meal without meat and keep being afraid of putting on weight; I have various styles of clothes and never stop buying the new. Therefore, considering wearing as well as
eating, my life seems to be easier and more comfortable than that of my grandparents. At least, I have no difficulties to survive.
As a contemporary student, my teenager time, however, is much harder than my grandparents' student days. We have to learn nine subjects, finish a great amount of homework, and, endless tests are waiting for us. Even if in vacation, we do not dare to rest since as long as you give yourself a break, you will be over passed by others. Under such tense pressure, our life, which is supposed to be colorful, is eclipsed and designed. On the contrary, my grandparents' teenager time was much more interesting. According to the description of my grandfather, he went to swim in rivers with his friends after school, went fishing in the streams near his village on weekends, and caught crickets in the grass in summer, etc. I admire such relaxing and carefree life so much that I would rather eat less and dress worn-out clothes in order to go back to his time. Furthermore, going to school, for them, was something joyful; for us, is a nightmare. This is because that they went to school carrying a small bag containing only one text book, one notebook and one pen, but we go to school with a school bag weighing more than five kilograms.
All in all, our life is free from hunger and cold, but we are stressed out; our grandparents' childhood was always hungry and chill, but it was filled with happiness. Probably, our life is physically easier and comfortable, while grandparents' was mentally happier and wonderful.
