The Four Seasons
My favorite time of the year is spring! After the long, cold winter, it's so nice when the warm weather returns and nature comes back to life. The first signs of spring are always so exciting - seeing the snow melt away, little green buds appearing on the trees, and bright flowers poking up through the ground. Spring means it's time for the Easter holiday too. I love decorating eggs in all the pretty colors and having an Easter egg hunt in the backyard with my little brother. Mom usually gets us some new spring clothes too with pastel colors and fun patterns. One of my favorite springtime traditions is going to the park and flying a kite on a breezy day.
As spring turns into summer, the weather gets even warmer and the days are longer. School lets out for summer vacation, which is the best! No more homework or waking up early. My friends and I spend our days riding bikes, playing outside, swimming at the pool, and having sleepovers. The Fourth of July is always a blast with the fireworks displays and backyard barbecues.
Summer is also perfect for family vacations and road trips. Last year, we drove across the country to visit the Grand Canyon. It was so huge and amazing! I also love when my dad fires up the grill and we have picnics or cookouts in the backyard. Catching fireflies in a jar at night is something I look forward to every summer.
Eventually, the scorching summer heat fades into the crisp, cool air of autumn. This is my second favorite season because of all the changes nature goes through. The leaves turn into vibrant shades of red, orange, and yellow before falling off the trees. It's fun jumping into big piles of them in the yard! Halloween is the biggest event of fall, and I love dressing up in a fun costume and going trick-or-treating with my friends.
My mom makes the most delicious pumpkin pie and other treats like apple cider for Thanksgiving. One of my favorite fall activities is going to a pumpkin patch or apple orchard and picking out the perfect ones. School starts back up in the fall too, which isn't that fun. But at least fall fashion means I get to wear my favorite cozy sweaters and boots.
Finally, winter arrives with its freezing temperatures and snowy days. At first the snow is really exciting, and my siblings and I rush outside to have snowball fights, make snow angels,
and go sledding. Hot chocolate with extra marshmallows is a must for warming up afterwards! The sparkling lights and decorations everywhere make the holidays feel extra magical. As pretty as the freshly fallen snow is, by the middle of winter I'm ready for it to melt away. The endless gray skies, shoveling heaps of snow, and bundling up in a million layers gets old fast. I start counting down the days until spring will come again and I can shed those heavy coats. Playing outside in the snow loses its fun when my toes go numb from the bitter cold! Still, winter has its charms like baking Christmas cookies, watching cheesy holiday movies while wearing my coziest PJs, and getting new toys from Santa on Christmas morning. When the new year arrives, I make sure to make resolutions and goals for the upcoming year. Hopefully winter will fly by fast so I can get back to enjoying the nice spring warmth soon!
No matter how much I dislike certain parts of each season, I'm always glad when a new one rolls around. The changing weather and activities keep things fresh and exciting throughout the entire year. Whether I'm shivering through a snowstorm, soaking up summer rays at the beach, jumping into piles of fallen leaves, or smelling the sweet spring flowers bloom, there's something to appreciate during every season. They each bring
their own unique beauty and fun in their own way. I feel very lucky to get to experience the cycle of spring, summer, fall, and winter year after year!
