第三节:阅读理解(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分) A

People today, in all this new world of technology and thinking, have lost sight of what a true friendship is. I thought I would help the world out a little and explain what real, true friends are.

Friends don’t have to be exactly the same. Friends have similarities but they also have their differences. The key to opening up the world of friendship is not only to expand similarities but also to accept each other’s faults, because you can’t ever judge your friend.

Friends have to argue! No one likes to argue but it is necessary to have a healthy friendship, because if you agree on everything, either you aren’t being true to each other or one of you is trying a little too hard to please the other. You have to be comfortable together or else you just aren’t going to click. If you feel uneasy around the person then something isn’t quite right.

Friends love unconditionally. They have their little angry moments but what’s done is done and all is forgiven and forgotten. Why let something that happened in the past ruin what happiness you could have in the future? Believe in love at first sight because the same thing happens in friendship. Some people think that you have to know someone really well to become good friends. Trust me, it’s not true.

These are only a few of the basics. Just remember, friends are forever. Don’t disrespect your friends, love them instead.

36. The underlined sentence in the passage means that “ ”. A. you shouldn’t drop him / her a line B. you can’t be comfortable C. you will feel angry D. you can’t be friends

37. According to the author’s words, true friends . A. must be similar to each other B. do not argue

C. must be honest

D. must always love each other

38. The author writes the passage to . A. explain what happiness means to people B. call on people to show more love to others

C. make people understand what a true friendship means D. ask people to make as many friends as possible B

Compassion(同情,怜悯) is a desire within us to help others. With effort, we can translate compassion into actions. An experience last weekend showed me this is true. I work part-time in a supermarket across from a building for the elderly. These old people are our main customers, and it’s not hard to lose patience over their slowness. But last Sunday, one aged gentleman appeared to teach me a valuable lesson. This untidy man walked up to my register(收款机) with a box of biscuits. He said he was out of cash, had just moved into his room, and had nothing in his cupboards. He asked if we could let him have the food on trust. He promised to repay me the next day. I couldn’t help staring at him. I wondered what kind of person he had been ten or twenty years before, and what he would be like if luck had gone his way. I had a hurt in my heart for this kind of human soul, all alone in the world. I told him that I was sorry, and store rules didn’t allow me to do so. I felt stupid and unkind saying this, but I valued my job. Just then, another man, standing behind the first, spoke up. If anything, he looked more pitiable. “Charge it to me,” was all he said.

What I had been feeling was pity. Pity is soft, safe and easy. Compassion, on the other hand, is caring in action. I thanked the second man but told

him that was not allowed either. Then I reached into my pocket and paid for the biscuits myself. I reached into my pocket because these two men had reached into my heart and taught me compassion.

39. The aged gentleman who wanted to buy the biscuits . A. promised to obey the store rules B. forgot to take any money with him

C. hoped to have the food first and pay later D. could not afford anything more expensive

40. Which of the following best describes the old gentleman? A. Kind and lucky.

D. he expected someone else to pay for the old man 42. What does the writer learn from his experience? A. Wealth is more important than anything else. B. Helping others is easier said than done. C. Experience can not be gained through practice. D. Obeying the rules means more than compassion. C

Job interviews are all about finding the right fit between the employer and potential(有潜力的) employee. The following interview styles were techniques used by Hiring Managers, hiring for Houston Jobs:

Screening Interview

Screening Interview: A member of the human resources department usually conducts the screening interview in order to weed out unqualified candidates. Providing facts about your skills is more important than establishing rapport(和善). Provide answers to their questions, and never volunteer any additional information. That information could work against you.

One-on-One Interview

In a one-on-one interview, the interviewer wants to see if you will fit in with the company, and how your skills will complement the rest of the department. Your goal in a one-on-one interview is to establish rapport with the interviewer and show him or her that your qualifications will benefit the company. Lunch Interview

The same rules apply in lunch interviews as in those held at the office. The setting may be more casual, but remember it is a business lunch and you are being watched carefully. Use the lunch interview to develop common ground with your interviewer. Follow his or her lead in both selection of food and in etiquette(礼节). Committee Interview

Committee interviews are a common practice. You will face several members of the company who have a say in whether you are hired. When answering questions from several people, speak directly to the person asking the question. It is not necessary to answer to the group. Group Interview

A group interview is usually designed to uncover the leadership potential

of prospective managers and employees who will be dealing with the public. The front-runner candidates are gathered together in an informal, discussion-type interview. A subject is introduced and the inter-viewer will start off the discussion. The goal of the group interview is to see how you interact with others and how you use your knowledge and reasoning powers to win others over.

43. A candidate is .

A. someone who is running in an election or applying for a job B. someone who can make the decision in an interview C. a person who holds the interview

D. someone who has been accepted by the interviewer 44. Which of the following statements is TRUE?

A. You will get more chances if you speak more in a Screening Interview. B. In a Lunch Interview you can talk whatever you want.

C. In a Group Interview you may be questioned by many interviewers. D. In a One-on-One Interview you should show that you will fit in with the company.

45. In a Committee Interview, you will . A. try to answer more difficult questions B. have to face more than one interviewers C. be offered a lunch after that

D. try to answer the question before others D

Betty and Harold have been married for years. But one thing still puzzles(困扰) old Harold. How is it that he can leave Betty and her friend Joan sitting on the sofa, talking, go out to a ballgame, come back three and

a half hours later, and they’re still sitting on the sofa? Talking? What in the world, Harold wonders, do they have to talk about? Betty shrugs. Talk? We’re friends.

Researching this matter called friendship, psychologist(心理学家) Lillian Rubin spent two years interviewing more than two hundred women and men. No matter what their age, their job, their sex, the results were completely clear: women have more friendships than men, and the difference in the content and the quality of those friendships is “marked and unmistakable”.

More than two-thirds of the single men Rubin interviewed could not name a best friend. Those who could were likely to name a woman. Yet three-quarters of the single women had no problem naming a best friend, and almost always it was a woman. More married men than women named their wife / husband as a best friend, most trusted person, or the one they would turn to in time of emotional distress(感情危机). “Most women,” says Rubin, “identified(认定) at least one, usually more, trusted friends to whom they could turn in a troubled moment, and they spoke openly about the importance of these relationships in their lives.”

“In general,” writes Rubin in her new book, “women’s friendships with each other rest on shared emotions and support, but men’s relationships are marked by shared activities.” For the most part, Rubin says, interactions(交往) between men are emotionally controlled—a good fit with the social requirements of “manly behavior”.

“Even when a man is said to be a best friend,” Rubin writes, “the two share little about their innermost feelings. Whereas a woman’s closest female friend might be the first to tell her to leave a failing marriage, it wasn’

t unusual to hear a man say he didn’t know his friend’s marriage was in serious trouble until he appeared one night asking if he could sleep on the sofa.” (2001年高考题)

48. According to the passage, which type of behavior is NOT expected of a man by society?

第四节 阅读表达(阅读短文,回答以下五个问题,每小题3分,满分15分) Sometime in the next century, the familiar early-morning newspaper on the front porch (走廊) will disappear. And instead of reading your newspaper, it will read to you. You’ll get up and turn on the computer newspaper just like switching on the TV. A program can select the type of news you want, and an electronic voice will distribute (分类) stories about the latest events, guided by the program. You’ll even get to choose the kind of voice you want to hear. Want more information on the brief story? A simple touch makes the entire text appear. Save it in your own personal computer file if you like. These are among the predictions (预报) from communications experts working on the newspapers of the future. Pictured as part of broader home-based media and entertainment systems, computer newspapers would unite print and broadcast reporting, offering news and analysis with video images of news events.

Most of the technology is available now, but convincing more people that they don’t need paper to read is the next step. But resistance (反抗) to computer newspapers may be stronger from within journalism. Since it is such a cultural change, it may be that the present generation of journalists and publishers will have to die off before the next generation realizes that the newspaper industry is no longer a newspaper industry. Technology is making the end of traditional newspapers unavoidable.

Despite technological advances, it could take decades to replace newsprint with computer screens. It might take 30 to 40 years to complete the change over because people need to buy computers and because newspapers have established financial interests in the paper industry. 51. Give the best title of this passage. (In English)

52. According to the passage, what are the advantages of computer newspapers? (In English)

53. Why might computer newspapers take 30 to 40 years to replace traditional newspapers? (In English)

54 把第一段的划线句子改成一个非并列句。

55. Translate the underlined sentence in the second paragraph into Chinese.

As part of the Spring Festival celebrations, fireworks are a festival custom that existed for more than 2,000 years. In the past decade many cities banned fireworks. However, this year more than 100 cities including Beijing lifted the ban.

Yet, people are divided on this ban. Setting off fireworks is generally not welcomed by most people. They think fireworks are not only a waste of money but also cause serious air pollution and make tremendous noises. Well, I like playing fireworks very much and I really regard it as part of the necessary celebrations during the festival, which brings about more laughter and happiness.

Hope to keep in touch with you. Yours, Li Gang
